The Story/The Direction:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Scott and Kate (Ferrell and Poehler) are no longer able to pay for their daughter' college tuition. They then decide that to raise the money they must open an underground casinoin their friend's, Frank's (Mantzoukas) basement. Naturally, more unforseen situations happen and things get out of control. There is also a subplot about a local politician, (Kroll), who teams up with Officer Chandler (Huebel) to find out what's going on. Is this comedy gold? No. But is it absolutely terrible? No it's not. I did find myself laughing a good amount.

The Characters:

Is this a film that you expect character development? Not really but there is true chemistry between the three main actors of Ferrell, Poehler, and Mantzoukas. They all have some great comedic delivery that support the plot in a positive way. I hope there will be more films with them in it. I do think Mantzoukas is the standout and he has some hilarious scenes.

The Flaws:

In all honesty, this film had a good premise and cast that could have led to a film that was comedy gold. However, this is not the case. The film could have been more of a comedic comment on society about the struggle of paying for education. However, the transitions between comedic situations is just sloppy that you don't really feel any attachment to the situations that the characters are going through. While there were times where I was laughing, there were also times where the jokes did not land and it was more awkward than anything. And there were times where a joke in the trailer (normal or red-band) seemed hilarious but when executed in the context of the film, it was not.

This film is no where near the stars' best performances but it's not their worst either. It's stupid and it has some funny moments that will have you laughing. The chemistry between the three main actors is great but the sloppy script hinders the overall movie. You could watch this film anywhere and not feel that you wasted time but you probably wouldn't watch it a second time voluntarily.
